McMurdo's R1 Emergency Handheld VHF Radio puts a cost effective fully GMDSS compliant 3 channel VHF safety radio on your boat. The waterproof R1 VHF radio is approved to ETS300, IMO, EU MED (Ships wheel), FCC & SOLAS regulations. The Three Channel R1 Emergency Handheld is designed specifically for emergency usage and operates on channels Ch. 6, 13 & 16 only. The R1 VHF radio copes with the toughest marine environments being waterproof, buoyant, and drop proof as required by GMDSS legislation.
The R1 radio includes a non rechargeable Lithium battery pack (5 year storage life, 12hour operational life) that only needs replacement every 5 years or immediately after usage to comply with the GMDSS regulations. An available test battery (sold separately) enables annual GMDSS radio checks without depleting the 5 yr Lithium battery pack.
